一歲那年，一場疾病讓她成了盲人。父母抱著襁褓中的她淚流滿面，絕望地哀嘆：“可憐的孩子，她這一生可怎么過呀!”雙目失明的人，內心總是特別敏感，當她漸漸長大，意識到自己與常人不一樣后，開始大哭大鬧。哭鬧聲令父母心碎。
親人們以百般的寵愛來彌補對她的虧欠。她任性、孤僻、郁郁寡歡，對家人的依賴與日俱增。
六歲的一天，外婆拉著她到外面玩，因為很小的事情，她變得極不開心，又撒起潑來，無理取鬧。
年邁的外婆嘆氣說：“孩子，你總是這樣，將來會害人的。”
“什么叫會害人?”
“就是拖累人，成為別人的累贅!”這句話，深深地刺痛了她的心，也激起了她強烈的逆反心理，
“我才不會害人。我眼睛看不見，但我有雙手，有大腦，有耳朵，決不會成為別人的累贅，我要做一個有用的人。”她氣憤地回答。

“我不能害人，我要成功，我必須付出比別人多十倍百倍的努力!”一個強烈的信念支撐著她頑強地跑下去，她咬緊牙關，繼續邁動步伐。熬過最艱難的歲月后，她也煉成了鋼，一路跑進亞洲殘疾人運動會。亞運賽場上，她威風八面，銳不可當，連連摘金奪銀。當國歌響起時，站在獎臺上的她聆聽觀眾如潮的掌聲，心里暗暗自語：我不比任何人差。
然而，冠軍的光環畢竟是短暫的。在證明了自己的能力后，她開始繼續尋找安身立命之本。出于對外語的興趣，她決定學習英語，將來做一名翻譯。她興致勃勃地報名參加外語培訓班，但人家知道她是盲人后，全都婉拒了。她的心再次被刺痛，“難道盲人就學不好外語?難道我真的注定要成為別人的負擔?”她不服氣，既然沒人愿意教她，那就自學：既然看不到，那就聽。憑借驚人的毅力，她每天堅持收聽英語廣播，日積月累，口語和聽力水平大幅提升。20xx年，她再次報考著名的南京外國語學校，校方要求她先跟班試聽。
三個月過后，她出色的表現征服了學校，終于成了該校建校以來第一個盲人學生。有了好的平臺，她更加珍惜來之不易的機會，在同學們上網、泡吧的時候，她仍孜孜不倦地學習，先后刻苦攻讀了英語、西班牙語、瑞典語三門外語。她不俗的經歷加上優異的成績打動了數所中外名校，20xx年6月，斯坦福大學、哈佛大學、耶魯大學幾乎同時向她發來了錄取通知書。
她叫吳晶，江蘇泰興的一個普通女孩，目前正就讀于瑞典斯德哥爾摩大學，并幸運地當選為瑞典盲人協會董事。面對記者的采訪，吳晶說出了一句令人震驚的話：“感謝上天讓我成為盲人，催我奮進，讓我能夠心無旁騖、堅韌不拔地做事情，頑強地‘做自己’。”
