Last summer vacation, Tom took a part-time job in a company.His office was very small at the end of the second floor.One Friday evening, he finished his work and went out of his office.It’s already six o’clock.He looked around and found everybody had gone home.The building was very quiet, and the main lights were all out.He ran down to see whether he could find somebody, but it was too late.The doors all locked, and he was locked in the building.Tom went back to his office to phone the doorkeeper, but the phone did not work.He tried another one, and that phone did not work, either.Tom realized the phones in the office had been locked for the weekend.He thought, “I had to be here for the weekend”.Suddenly he remembered that in the reception room there was a phone that was always on.So he rushed to the reception room.The door was locked, too.So he went into the room through the window, and phoned the doorkeeper.Half an hour later, the doorkeeper came, and Tome went home.

Uncle John Was Saved
When Uncle John was 85 years old, most of his families and relatives were already dead.He lived by himself in a big house.The only person who often talked to him was his nephew Tom.Tom called several times a week just for few minutes to say hello and see if everything was OK.
One morning Tom phoned Uncle John again.Again no answer.Two hours later he called the 3rd time.Still no answer, he got very anxious.So he called Uncle John’s next door neighbor.Tom told her that he was worried about Uncle John and asked her to see what was wrong.A while later, the neighbor phoned Tom.She said nervously, “Tom, I’m sorry it took so long.Uncle John didn’t answer the door, so I used his spare key.I found him lying on the bathroom floor.I could not wake him up.” Tom called the doctor immediately, and then rushed to Uncle John’s house.When he got there, the doctor had already been there.The doctor said that he was just in time to save him.

聽力測試在高考英語試題中占有五分之一的比重。要提高聽力,在高考中出彩,掌握有效的應試技巧是十分重要的。
一、試題形式
目前高考及其他中學階段各種考試采用的聽力測試題型主要為三種:短對話、短篇以及長對話。答題形式有兩種:多項選擇題(Multiple Choice)和填空題(Spot Dictation)。其中填空題有的空格要求考生聽懂長對話內容,填其“意義”而不是細節性的具體單詞。
短對話只聽1遍;其他兩大題,各聽2遍,耗時約20—30分鐘。
二、應試技巧
★聽短對話。考生在處理廣播調試聲音后,即可“掃描”短對話中的選項。據此展望第1個短對話可能出現的話題。
假如考生看到的是:
A.On March 2
B.On March 3
C.On March 5
D.On March 8
則考生可以判斷,第1題話題涉及3月的某一天;考生一聽見錄音第1題及問句,由于已有所知悉,立刻可做出正確選擇。
不要等到第一題念畢,問句提出后再去看四個選項。一般兩道聽力題(短對話)之間相隔6秒。如早早完成,即可提前思考第2題。
又如題干較長的題目:
A.They’d better not go riding.
B.Riding a bike is a great idea.
C.It’s not good riding in the rain.
D.They can go riding half an hour later.
考生在“掃描”時,預先知道該題涉及騎自行車;其中可能涉及騎車的時間,也可能是涉及一次具體的騎車活動。
這種“超前”瀏覽選項的本領可以培養,有的考生可以提前“掃描”3~5題,并保留一定印象。
[注] 聽短對話時切忌走神。萬一走神,比如說第4題沒聽清楚,你的本能反應是想再聽,想回憶——但根本不可能,所以此刻只好猜題。猜題還有1/4的希望;反思的話,不巧把第5題也給漏掉!
★聽短文。聽短文時要學會“記要”(taking notes)。記要有兩類,一是用符號記下關鍵信息(如數量大小、時間順序等);一是用具體文字記。這是因為短文耗時長,有人會“前聽后忘記”。另外一個決竅是“超前”瀏覽短篇的選項。如:
A.Why a company lost its customers.
B.Why a company went out of business.
C.How a company went from bad to worse.
D.How a company got out of its difficult situation.
考生一掃描就意識到該題指全文中心思想,并立即分辨出問題要么問理由(針對why), 要么講過程(針對how)。
★聽長對話。聽長對話也應該有個“超前”掃描,先對對話話題有個印象。在對話進行時要注意“細節”(detail)和“關鍵詞” (key words),必要時也得作“記要”:用鉛筆,在試卷邊(test paper margin)記一下。Taking notes的技巧可以從《高中英語(新世紀版)》高三年級的課本中去找。
三、訓練方法
聽力水平的提高有兩種方法:
(一)不斷地“聽”模擬試題。隔天一聽,每周兩聽,等等。從當年9月起聽到次年5月;用過的試卷達40~50套。這種應試訓練要注意:
1.每次訓練宜一氣呵成。高考聽力是一氣呵成,中間無間歇的。
2.每次訓練要嘗試“超前”技巧。
3.聽完,對好答案,要反思,查一查自己丟分的道理,查一查自己的“軟肋”。
(二)抓基本功。選擇材料,學習聽取“意群”(sense group),聽“連讀”(liaison),聽“重讀”(stressed words)以及“略讀”(reduction)。為什么?因為目前高考聽力并不采用“真實語言材料”(authentic material)。在真實生活中的對話,處處用到上述4種口語“技巧”。一般速度快,句子短或者不完整。所以從長遠看,要真正提高聽力水平,應從基本功開始,在迎接高考之初,第二種準備方法為時不晚,關鍵是勤奮。
四、材料信息
關于聽力模擬試卷,建議選用專業出版社的產品,如上海外語教育出版社。
關于聽力基本功訓練,建議選用《英語(新世紀版)聽力》(上海外語教育出版社)。該書1~3冊,每單元后都有Mechanic Skills的專項訓練,附有“意群”、“連讀”、“重讀”及“略讀”的實例。
另外,如考生有條件,進口教材中有許多精彩的聽力訓練材料可選用,如:Longman出版的Impact Listening 1~3,配有CD。 至于書市上流行的VOA, BBC及CNN的各種CD,可以選用一些,但必須由老師精選。
聽力材料話題一定要廣泛,話題要符合《課程標準》中提及的項目。
五、注意事項
生詞的拼寫及朗讀也應同步展開。單詞讀音不準,聽力的準確性受損;單詞的拼寫不準,即便聽懂了的也寫不出來。
